In a university full of zombies, how do you ensure that you don't lose your own humanity in your quest for survival?

The answer is simple: help those in dire need.

In areas secluded from IMU there are those who have as of yet not been infected by the rapidly spreading zombie disease. Unfortunately, an even more lethal disease has touched their lives: apathy.

Visiting these inspiring individuals will open your eyes to see that beauty and joy can be found in the simplest things in life (it may sound cliche, but that does not stop it from being the truth).

So drop your army façade for a day and remind yourself as to why you are willing to fight so hard for survival.

Sounds strange, we know, but it's all about adapting... adapting to the new surroundings, making the best of it, rising up above it!

This is what we want you to do.....

Every group is assigned a particular culture and matched with a celebrity. Your task is to get into the shoes of your character, and portray the celebrities adapting to the cultures they are thrown into. Bear in mind that in order to survive they have to follow the traditions and cultures of the natives- dance like them, wear like them, behave like them, why, even speak like them!!!

How would you do it? Can you SURVIVE?

*Warning: strong research and adaptation skills needed. Be prepared for the worst.

The Dress Code Committee will be going round to let the group leaders draw lots on what their culture and celebrity is.

Instructions:
a) A group member is to be the struggling celebrity while the others as supporting characters
b) Marks will be allocated for creativity- make it as interesting and HUMOROUS as possible.
c) Time limit: 5-6 minutes

Basic Rules:
a) Please do not offend/insult/mock your allocated culture in ANY way. Marks will be deducted for offending/insulting.
b) ABSOLUTELY NO CROSS DRESSING IS ALLOWED.
c) At least 8-9 members should be involved.
d) A maximum of 3 OOs are allowed to be involved.
e) Don’t forget to be punctual and have the group flag and name tags with you guys!

Do refer to the points system below as a guide to what the judges are looking out for.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
It is paramount that the judges should be able to distinguish between the different tribes. As mentioned before, each group MUST do their homework and find out what makes the tribe they are assigned to unique from the other tribes assigned to other groups.

As newly recruited members of F.A.R.T., you all are required to undergo training to prepare yourself against the zombies. As the zombies are headed to your base camp, your training has been compressed into seven stations.

You will train against each other in a different series of games, and each winning team will get three water balloons as a reward.

At the end of your training, you will be ready to face the zombies, in a match of.. dodgeball.

Two best players among each team will be chosen to face against the zombies. Best of luck!

Dress Code I

As legend would have it, zombies are boring creatures deprived of entertainment. They know nothing of glorious childhood pastimes, and would definitely stop in their tracks if a performance was worthy of their attention. You buy yourself some time to escape this way. Hurry! ~

Your mission: Disguise yourselves from the zombies as the main characters assigned to you while entertaining them with a 5-7 minute dance sketch based on the theme (song name).

Instructions:
1. Pick a minimum of 2-3 main characters for the theme you are given (for instance, Spongebob Squarepants, Sandy and Gary the snail) and devise other characters.
2. The theme song given is also the theme of the sketch. The song given needs to be used at least for 30s. (Note: the song can be remixed into a parody like JJ and Ean’s.…The wackier the catchier!) ;P
3. Design your own props and costumes. The more creative the better! 

What I do know is, this is a life-changing step that would be as fun and enjoyable as you make it out to be! Therefore, to learn the tips, tricks & trade to survive the next few years, here's your jump-start to know your seniors. This is…. SIGNATURE HUNT!!! =D ..medt109..

Bootcamp is your training gound, YOUR GROUND ZERO! You're a FRESHIE, A NEWBIE, A NOOB!!!

Like any new game you start off you're bound to be bullied by the higher level person unless you're lucky!

Hence, this task is not as easy as it seems.

Objectives:
Get as many signatures as possible. By doing so you're saving their lives. Your duty as a future DR!

*Tip: Some people are more important than others.

Rules:
1. DON'T GET CAUGHT - notice there are extra pages??? If you run into a zombie, they may take some lives away - you have to get more signatures according to how they feel.
2. For every signature you get, be sure to obtain - the signature, the name, student ID no.
3. Be sporting while obtaining the signatures - it'll be fun for everyone!

“There are three questions to each Drop zone where you have to find the place and take picture of it. OOs from different groups are not allowed to contact each other for clues to the locations hinted. Only 3 malls are considered due to accessibility via public transport.

Complete the missions given and FREEZE! If you happened to have watched a movie, please keep the tickets and submit them as well. Of course, bring back any sort of evidence of what you’ve done apart from photos only (maximum 50 pictures).

The phone number of the head OO of the group will be collected and he/she is allowed to call the track trip committee for further clues of the location of question but points will be deducted based on how crucial the clues are.

Finally, happy track tripping.”

DROP ZONE 1 : Pavillion - Group 2, 4, 7, 9, 11
Look at the brand of that boutique, do they teach you how to cheat in Jacks? It’s at the far end of the building and it will take you forever to reach there.

This is the place for you to yell your lungs out. The only thing that annoys people is that they force you into buying nuts which cost 8 bucks per bowl, or shall I call it per saucer. This franchise is special due to something they made to the interior, I guess, which makes the price almost double than any other of their siblings throughout Malaysia.

Craving for some sweet things to aid in your caries progress? All these are said to be desserts from the Land of the Rising Sun. No budget? No problem, just drool to your heart’s content by scrutinizing the dummy desserts from outside.

DROP ZONE 2 : Mid Valley - Group 1, 3, 5, 10, 13
They claim to have the biggest apple but they don’t sell apples? Nah, just kidding, they use the moniker for New York city as their brand. They do sell coffee and ring-shaped deep-fried piece of batter.

This is not really located inside the mall that you are appointed to. It is somewhere in the lobby of the hotel next door. As the descendants of the dragon, you would love the cuisine.

You feel claustrophobic, and maybe walking in the gardens would help. Seeing borders surrounding you, you feel the urge to run up the escalator. To the left, you see an eerie entertaining centre, lack of customers due to its overpriced service. And the ground to your right is the wonderland you searching for.

DROP ZONE 3 : KLCC - Group 6, 8, 12, 14
Tower within towers? How is that possible? There are shelves after shelves of round reflective flat donuts? Arrrrrr, this shop is never quiet.

Nerds’ paradise. What a funny name though, no idea what it means. There’s even space for you to keep your mind off noise upstairs

Love salt water? You can’t really swim here but the best thing is that you get to experience it as if you’re underwater

Chronosphere
Freeze your members for 5 minutes in the middle of the crowd, with people rustling through. Make attempts to not have any facial expressions or body movements. You better have this recorded and have the cameraman moves around each member to capture the moment. You can do this anywhere, as long as there are many people.

Other Tasks

Treasure hunt: Operation Lockdown

When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth…….

IMU appears to be a regular medical university at first glance, but deep within its campus, in the most secluded research lab, a top secret government project is going on. Its objective: to make the perfect medical and dental student, able to ace every test thrown at them. However, due to too much studying without having any fun at all, the results were horrifying zombies that crave flesh and relish in death and destruction! Now they are running loose in IMU!!

MEDT1/09, you have to find your way out of the campus in your groups! Take care, zombies are everywhere and a single bite or contact with its blood will transmit the X-virus turning you into zombies as well. Only with teamwork and effort will you survive this ordeal.

Your mission is to find the passkey which opens the gates of IMU, and sneak out to escape the terrible zombies. There are several clues located all over \campus that all teams have to solve to find the passkey. Be prepared, all tasks will test your intelligence and teamwork to the max!

Once all the tasks are completed, teams will proceed to the outdoor part. Once outside, a lockdown procedure will have to be activated to shut down all entrances of the IMU campus in order to lock in the zombies that have not escaped. Teams must go to wardens stationed at the Bukit Jalil park and complete tasks there in order to activate each stage of the lockdown.

Once completed, a master switch needs to be pressed to finalize it. Hurry! Every minute that passes will allow more zombies to escape from campus and makes it more difficult for teams to proceed!

The zombies’ brains are empty except with the medical knowledge that they have been imbued with. Therefore, they hunt by pure instinct, sensing movement and sound. When you meet a zombie, stay as still and silent as possible!!

Each zombie wears a tag that displays his/her true name. The group leader needs to shout the official command using the zombie’s name. The zombie will then regain human consciousness for a short period of time, allowing teams to escape.

Beware! If a zombie catches a team member, 10 damage is given to the team. When the team accumulates 100 damage, one member is sacrificed to be quarantined and the team must waste valuable time later to save him/her. Furthermore, should the leader be caught, he will automatically be sent to quarantine. Therefore, good teamwork is crucial to protect the group leader at all costs.

Once outside the campus, contact with environmental factors has caused the X-virus to undergo antigenic shift, giving the zombies extra abilities! The following is a list of the different classes of zombies.

Blue tag - Normal zombie.
This zombie has no mutations and can only walk slowly. The most primitive class of zombie.

Red tag - Hunter zombie.
This zombie can run and jump with the agility of a human being. Beware! They will chase down whoever moves or speak too closely to it.

Green tag - Stealth zombie.
This zombie will hide behind obstacles, ambushing any team passing by. Be careful around corners or bushes where they might hide.

Black tag - Zombie boss.
This zombie moves with moderate speed but calling out its name won’t slow it down at all.

Useful mystery items will be given to you if you show a picture obtained in the indoor part to the correct zombie.

Items:
1. Water gun which can stun zombies for 3 seconds.
2. Extra life-10HP

So be prepared, MEDT1/09! Only the fittest will survive. Use all your wits, courage and most importantly teamwork to overcome all challenges and live to tell the tale. Good luck!!

TEAMWORK, the basis of a great unit. A virtue always acquired, never gifted. Be it in conducting an open cardiothoracic surgery or wipin’ out them dang zombies with your C4s. One bad move and somebody’s had it. And TEAMWORK requires FAMILARITY, which means you people here ‘ave to START getting to know one another like you know your own keester.

It IS, absolutely important that you know your teammates. In fact, it’s Dead-or-Alive important! Here, you won’t have your mummies or daddies or your stuffed bunny Mr. Winkles here for widdle-booboo-snuggles. Here in I-M-U, you can either choose to be alone...or together as “ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY”! We suggest the latter, IF you want to survive that is. Your teammates, batchmates, and group members are your brothers and sisters and WE for this TWO whole weeks are gonna be your Mummies and Da-dazz! Whether you LIKE IT or NOT! *Grins freakishly*

We have divided the icebreakers into dry and wet. You, the survivors, the recruits are to gather at the rendezvous point (LT2, Lecture Theatre 2) at 1700 on the 25/02/09. You will be briefed and instructed on your mission. At 1800, you are to move to the Chancellor Hall for the commencement of the program, a.k.a. Dry Ice Breakers. Following this, we will continue with the Wet Ice Breakers at the Sub-Basement of the IMU car parking lot.

We would require all groups to bring a certain cleaning equipment e.g.1 pail, 1 mop and 1 broom per group.

In icebreakers, we are the survivors. Our numbers are large but the numbers of the infected are growing faster. We have gathered, but we are still strangers. Our purpose is that you get to know your fellow survivors and know them well. The training we have planned out is gruelling but uplifting and there will NOT be any unnecessary humiliation caused.

In actual fact, the same goes for this whole course as it too will be gruelling but enjoyable. We hope that through this event, you will eventually get to know your fellow “survivors” well and make great friends in the process. We DID, and we hope YOU will too.

The orientation programme does not tolerate profanity, cross-dressing or vulgar acts of any sort. Please be aware that this programme is closely followed by the deans of IMU.

In the terms of ragging, any sort of actions that may induce utter humiliation to anyone should be reported to the OOs or the committee members especially the President and Vice Presidents. You can choose not to follow only if the request has gone overboard.

By the term overboard, it applies only when the action is unethical. Please do not relate any sort of requests as ragging.

Punctuality

Please be informed that punctuality is an important factor in the programme. This is to ensure the events end at the allocated time, so that we would not need to lengthen the event due to failure to comply.

Most events will give points for punctuality!

How this works.

On the first day, students will be divided into 14 groups. Then, they will meet their Orientation Officers, or commonly known as OOs.

A leader, IMSS and a treasurer will be elected.

The leader is in charge of the group's welfare.

IMSS or I aM Super Soldier will be assessed throughout the orientation programme and will have a solo performance on Variety Night.

The treasurer is in charge of collection the Orientation funds (RM35 each), to be paid to the MEDT109 Orientation Treasurer for T-shirts, food and indoor and outdoor activities and will also be in charge of their own group funds.

The OOs will be guiding and helping the juniors throughout the orientation. Please do not be afraid to tell them any problems that you may encounter. You may also ask anything regarding life at IMU or etc..

If anyone is on medication, please inform the OOs in charge of your group and bring your medication along with you throughout the event. Please inform the OOs if you have medical conditions such as allergies and asthma or anything critical. The First Aid team will take your names down and will be on standby.

Instead of naming our programme as Orientation, we named it MEDT109 Bootcamp. Bootcamp is a metaphor of orientation, an idea of 'training' the incoming students, or freshies to adapt to their new surroundings, Medical (or Dental) school life.

The event goes with "Ground Zero: Can you survive?"

"Ground Zero", means Where an activity begins or Where it all started or simply the starting point, and this refers to IMU, where the life of the students begin. This is not to be confused to the 911.

For "Can you survive?" it is a question to ask whether the students can survive medical school or not.

The theme name was suggested to meet the purpose of the orientation, to ensure that the new students can adapt well to their new school.

IMU MEDT109 Orientation is a programme catered for new incoming medical and dental students of International Medical University (IMU) for the Feb 2009 intake. It is a two-week long event beginning on the 24th of February 2009 till 7th of March 2009. There will also be a Charity Home Visit activity planned for them on the 21st of March 2009.

The committee has prepared the events so that it will be fun and safe at the same time. This is the time to get to know your batchmates and familiarise with IMU.
